Solar LED Street Light Installation

The solar street light system refers to an independent decentralized power supply system that constitutes the automatic solar street light. It is not restricted by geographical location, is not affected by the installation position of the power supply, and does not require digging up roads for wiring and underground pipe construction. On-site construction and the installation of solar LED street lights are very convenient.


There is no need for power transmission and transformation systems, no consumption of municipal electricity, it is both environmentally friendly and energy-saving, has good comprehensive economic benefits, and it is very convenient to add automatic solar light road to already built roads. Its economic benefits are particularly evident when used on road lights, outdoor billboards, and bus stops that are far from the power grid.


Overview of Solar Street Lights


Solar street lights use crystalline silicon solar cells to supply power, maintenance-free valve-regulated sealed batteries (gel batteries) to store electrical energy, and ultra-high brightness LED lamps as light sources. They are controlled by intelligent charge and discharge controllers, used to replace traditional public power lighting street lights without the need for cable laying, AC power supply, or electricity bills. 


They use DC power supply and control and have the advantages of good stability, long life, high luminous efficiency, simple and convenient installation and maintenance of solar LED road lights, high safety performance, energy saving, environmental protection, and economic practicality. They can be widely used in primary and secondary urban roads, residential areas, factories, tourist attractions, parking lots, and other places.


Solar LED Street Light Installation Steps


Foundation Pouring


1. Determine the position of the street light; survey geological conditions. If the surface layer of 1.2 meters consists of soft soil, the excavation depth should be deepened. At the same time, confirm that there are no other facilities (such as cables, pipes, etc.) below the excavation position, and there are no long-term shading objects above the street light; otherwise, the position should be appropriately changed;


2. Reserve (excavate) a 1.3-meter pit that meets the standard at the position of the street light; proceed with the positioning and pouring of embedded parts. Place the embedded parts in the center of the square pit with one end of the PVC threading pipe in the center of the embedded parts and the other end in the battery storage area. Ensure that the embedded parts and the foundation are level with the original ground (or the top of the bolts is level with the original ground, as required). One side should be parallel to the road, ensuring that the light pole stands upright after installation without tilting. Then, pour C20 concrete to fix it. During the pouring process, continuously use a vibration rod to ensure the overall compactness and firmness;


3. After the construction is completed, promptly clean up the residual mud on the positioning board and clean the impurities on the bolts with waste oil;


4. During the solidification of the concrete, regularly water it for maintenance. After the concrete is completely solidified (generally more than 72 hours), the light installation can commence.


Installation of Battery Components


1. Before connecting the positive and negative outputs of the solar panels to the controller, measures should be taken to avoid a short circuit;


2. When connecting the solar battery components to the bracket, they must be firm and reliable;


3. The output lines of the components should be avoided from being exposed and should be tied firmly with tie wraps;


4. The orientation of the battery components should face due south, based on the direction of the compass.


Installation of Batteries


1. When placing the batteries in the control box, handle them with care to prevent damaging the control box;


2. The connecting wires between batteries must be pressed on the terminals of the batteries with bolts and use copper gaskets to enhance conductivity;


3. After connecting the output lines to the batteries, short-circuits are strictly prohibited in any circumstances to avoid damaging the batteries;


4. The output lines of the batteries must pass through PVC threading pipes when connecting to the controller inside the pole;


5. After the above is completed, check the connections at the controller end to prevent short circuits. Once everything is normal, close the door of the control box.


Installation of the Lighting Fixture


1. Fix each component: fix the solar panels on the solar panel bracket, fix the lamp head on the arm, then fix the bracket and arm to the main pole, and thread the connecting wires to the control box (battery box);


2. Before lifting the light pole, check whether the fasteners of each part are firm, whether the lamp head is installed correctly, whether the light source works normally, and then perform a simple test to see if the system works normally. Disconnect the solar panel connection on the controller, and the light source works;


3. During the lifting of the main light pole, pay attention to safety measures, ensure the screws are tightly fastened. If there is any deviation in the sunlight angle, adjust it to face due south;


4. Place the battery into the battery box and connect the wires to the controller according to technical requirements. Connect the battery first, then the load, and finally the solar panel. Be sure to adhere to the correct wiring order and ensure that the connected terminals marked on the controller are not mixed up. Do not let the positive and negative terminals collide or reverse; otherwise, the controller will be damaged;


5. Check whether the system works normally by disconnecting the solar panel connection on the controller. The light should turn on. Reconnect the solar panel connection, and the light should turn off while carefully observing the changes in the indicator lights on the controller. If everything is normal, seal the control box.
